roadside ditch
Essay by Tim Gardiner on wildflower names and haiku published in latest edition of Presence - Britain’s leading independent haiku journal (November 2019, issue #65) in which he cited my haiku with a comment:
roadside ditch –
under the thin layer of ice
first kingcups
In haiku Marta Chocilowska uses kingcup to suggest the onset of a cold spring. The use of the old English name, kingcup, efffectively juxtaposes with the roadside ditch, finding something extraordinary in the most ordinary of places.
