David McMurray says: The haikuist disappointingly “read in the news that cherry trees have already bloomed in Japan” and asked if it was really “true that they bloom earlier and earlier every year?” Haikuists visiting from abroad who missed their chance to see sakura this year instead had to write about “shinryoku” meaning the first fresh green of early summer’s young leaves.

Hinamatsuri (雛祭り), also called Doll's Day or Girls' Day, is a religious (Shinto) holiday in Japan, celebrated on 3 March of each year. Platforms covered with a red carpet–material are used to display a set of ornamental dolls (雛人形, hina-ningyō) representing the Emperor, Empress, attendants, and musicians in traditional court dress of the Heian period.

Subtelny humor jest – obok prostoty, lekkości, dystansu, świadomości przemijania i pewnego smutku – jedną z cech pożądanych w haiku. Blask kwitnącego rzepaku jest tak silny, że trzeba założyć okulary przeciwsłoneczne, aby delektować się widokiem.

Subtle humor is - next to simplicity, lightness, distance, awareness of transience, and a certain sadness - one of the features desired in haiku. The glow of the blooming rapeseed is so strong that you have to put on sunglasses to enjoy the view.
